Questions You may still have

RedCat:

We at RedCat develop mobile applications for a variety of platforms including iOS, Android, and cross-platform environments, including smartphones and tablets. We ensure that the apps are optimized for performance and design consistency across all devices and platforms.

The suggested choice of platforms depends on three key factors:

  • Which devices does your paying target audience use the most?
  • What are the technological limitations of each platform, and what is “extra”?
  • What financial capabilities and team expertise do you have at the moment?

For example, if your target audience is “consecutive or simultaneous translators from a sign language”, they will use tablets, mostly iPads, and their backoffice will need a web interface with adaptive layouts on mobile devices.

RedCat:

At RedCat, we employ a wide array of technologies tailored to each project’s needs. For native app development, we use Swift and Kotlin for iOS and Android respectively. For cross-platform solutions, we utilize the framework React Native in combination with TypeScript. For admin dashboards that come along with mobile apps, we prefer React.js, and Next.js. Backend technologies and infrastructure of a high level in our list are such as Node.js, Express.js, Nest.js, Python, Polygon, Firebase, AppoloGraphQL, Docker, AWS, and Google Cloud Ecosystem.

Let’s mention also what we don’t use: Flutter, WebFlow, and no-code platforms for mobile.

RedCat:

At RedCat, the mobile app development process is meticulously structured to ensure quality and efficiency. But it depends on what you already have on a table, meaning there is a list of inevitable phases, so let’s see together where you are at.

If we are tanking about a custom development from scratch, here it begins with the Discovery phase, where we identify client needs, conduct market research, and create a detailed project estimate. This is followed by the Design phase, where wireframes and user interfaces are crafted. Upon request we catch up our clients here with some elements of a Product development, to make sure the product will survive.

Then, in the Development phase, our developers write the code and integrate the necessary APIs. The Testing phase goes simultaneously, ensuring that the app is bug-free and user-friendly. Finally, we assist with the app launch and provide ongoing Maintenance and Support.

But usually Maintenance stage is rather a continuation of development, simply because all products which fit the market require tones of collaboration between tech specialists and Marketing, product pivots, and investors also can occasionally contribute with a specific requirements which affect a product scope of work.

Long story short: on paper it looks like everywhere else, but in reality it is a structured ultramarathon.

RedCat:

Mobile application development cost can be as diverse as the apps themselves. Basic apps can start from $30,000, including standard features and analytics. What’s important – we will not use any 5-year-old templates from stores, we are talking about a real custom development. However, apps integrated with technologies like Blockchain or demanding high computing costs can easily exceed $100,000. The final cost is influenced by the app’s complexity, user data handling especially with GDPR or similar compliance, and any 3rd parties integrations.

To elucidate, our recent application Gordiss was developed from scratch at a budget of $45,000. It had a blend of unique and standard features, catered to both AppStore and PlayMarket, and included a robust security audit and penetration testing before its first release.

RedCat:

Developing a mobile app typically ranges between 4 to 8 months. Simple apps, with standard features and clear user behavior patterns, can be developed in a shorter timeframe by a compact team of 2-4 specialists, especially if you have designs ready.

On the other hand, apps with unique features, requiring AI or ML integrations, or needing extensive localization, might require a larger team of 3-7 professionals and take up to 12 months.

At RedCat, our approach begins with a Discovery phase where we lay out the project estimate, scope of work, and draft a roadmap. For instance, our project<a href=”https://redcat.dev/case/workout-iot-app/”> HyFit</a> underwent a detailed competitors research, was developed with a dedicated team of 5 over 4 months, and included unique Big Data and IoT functionalities, reflecting our commitment to timely delivery and innovation.

But the best way is of cource to share with us 3-5 references of what you want, and receive a ballpark figure.

RedCat:

You are right if we are talking about subscriptions, paid apps, in-app purchases and GameDev. For the rest, there are a lot of options without these commissions applied.
The commission rate is 30% for the first year of the subscription, after which it reduces to 15%. For apps that generate revenue through in-app advertising or sponsorships, App Store does not charge a commission.
For crypto-related apps, App Store allows them on the platform but has some specific guidelines related to cryptocurrencies. Apps that offer trading or exchange of cryptocurrencies must be from approved exchanges and must comply with applicable laws and regulations. If the app is a wallet, it must be offered by developers who are enrolled in Apple’s Developer Program and must comply with all relevant laws and regulations.
With PlayMarket it’s a bit easier and cheaper, but overall the same.

RedCat:

No. We have made this mistake in the past. Much easier to build from scratch cause, in this case, we can use our internal templates that are guaranteed to work.
